Its wash day and you messed up. Your hair is literally a dry matted ball of tangled hair. As you know some people, particularly those drier or textured hair types like curls and coils, are more prone to matted hair.
In addition to bad detangling methods, long periods without trimming, and not protecting your hair at night, you may also be at a greater risk for severe snags if your hair is rather long or brittle
Which every way you slice it - there are two things you can do. You can cry yourself to sleep or take the following steps to safely detangle your hair.
Step 1 - The first thing you want to do is saturate your hair with warm water and grab anything with slip. for ex: ( Detangling conditioner) or anything that is considered very slippery and water based like Aloe Vera gel
Step 2 - Find a tool that is tangle friendly (i.e. a detangling brush) or a simple wide tooth comb will do.
Step 3- With LUKEWARM water and your aloe Vera gel slowly and methodically comb ends from your ends to the root
Step 4 - This step requires a lot of patience as you will be working against gravity (especially if your hair is prone to shrinkage) Ensure you are twisting your detangled sections so it does not fuse back with your matted hair.
Step 5- Take preventive measures to ensure this does not become a pattern!
Your hair is only as good as you treat it. Tangles happen but you may want to ask yourself how often? If it seems inevitable, then your may want to consider proactively getting trims more often an deep conditioning if your hair is brittle and weak. Make sure your conditioner of choice has a focus on reviving brittle strands, coating weak hair and detangling (lots of slip) Check out our Hydraslip conditioner to learn more.
